Every event capacity calculation starts from the industry baseline of one restroom unit per 50 guests per 4 hours. That figure assumes typical usage, sober crowds, and reasonable wait times. From there you adjust up for the three things that drive usage higher: longer duration, alcohol, and event type. Guidance by Event Type
Not all crowds behave the same. Here's how the baseline shifts across the four most common event types we serve in New Jersey:
Concerts & Festivals
High-density crowds, long durations, and near-universal alcohol service make these the most demanding events to plan. Apply the baseline, extend for the full run time, then add the full 25–35% alcohol multiplier. Cluster units in multiple restroom banks so no attendee crosses the whole grounds, and dedicate banks near the stage and near the entrances. Weddings
Guest counts are smaller but expectations are higher. A 150-guest, 6-hour reception with a bar lands around 4–5 units — but at least one should be an upgraded VIP flushing unit with a sink and mirror. Pair with a hand wash station near the dining area. Backyard and shore weddings on private property rarely need a permit, but always include an ADA unit if elderly guests attend.
Corporate Functions
Company picnics, product launches, and grand openings tend to be shorter and more controlled. The baseline usually holds without a big alcohol adjustment unless there's an open bar. Presentation matters — a VIP unit at the guest-facing entrance signals quality even when standard units handle the volume behind the scenes.
Community & Public Events
Fairs, 5Ks, and municipal celebrations are the events most likely to require a county health permit and to be inspected for ADA access and handwashing near food vendors. The Alcohol Multiplier
Alcohol is the single biggest swing factor in event restroom demand. When a bar is open, guests use restrooms noticeably more often, and usage climbs the longer drinking continues. Add 25–35% more units than the sober baseline:
- +25% for limited service — a cash bar, a champagne toast, beer and wine only.
- +35% for sustained, heavy service — open bars, beer gardens, all-day festivals.
Female-to-Male Considerations
Because women's restroom visits take longer on average, a crowd that skews female needs more effective capacity than a raw headcount suggests. For weddings and events with a female-leaning guest list, lean toward the top of every range, and consider designating a portion of units women-only — our standard units come in a pink women's variant for exactly this. VIP & Upgrade Mixes
For premium events, mix unit tiers rather than deploying all-standard or all-VIP. A common approach:

Public events must provide accessible restrooms.
