High-Volume Counts

Start from the standard baseline — one unit per 50 attendees per 4 hours — then apply the festival realities: long daily hours, near-universal alcohol service, and food vendors everywhere. In practice that means the full +35% alcohol adjustment plus generous rounding. A 2,000-person festival running 10-hour days lands in the 55–70 unit range, not the 40 the sober baseline suggests.

Bank Layouts for Big Crowds

• Banks of 8–12 units, not scattered singles. Large banks let queues self-organize, concentrate lighting and hand wash stations, and — critically — let a service truck pump an entire bank in one stop.
• Position by crowd flow: one major bank near each entrance/exit, one near the main stage (set back from the sound field), one at the food vendor row, and one at the camping area if attendees stay overnight.
• The 3-minute rule: from anywhere on the grounds, an attendee should reach a restroom bank within a 3-minute walk, or the nearest bank overloads regardless of your total count.
• Every bank gets: at least one ADA unit on a firm level pad with an accessible route, one dual hand wash station per 2–3 toilets, and overnight-rated lighting.
• Back-of-house counts too: staff, vendors, and artists need their own smaller banks — a couple of VIP flushing units behind the stage keeps talent and crew out of the public queues.

Re-Pump Scheduling: The Multi-Day Core

This is where multi-day events differ most from single-day ones. A standard unit's tank is sized for roughly one heavy day of use — so on a multi-day event, servicing is not optional maintenance, it's daily capacity. How to schedule it:

• Pump every unit every night. The service window is after close and before gates — typically pre-dawn. Each truck stop includes pumping the tank, recharging the holding chemical, restocking paper and sanitizer, and wiping down surfaces. Budget roughly 5 minutes per unit per visit when planning the overnight window.
• Keep truck lanes open after dark. The single most common multi-day failure: fencing, vendor tents, or parked equipment blocks the route the pump truck needs at 4 a.m. Mark service lanes on the site map and keep them clear all event.
• Add a mid-day check on peak days. For the highest-traffic banks (main stage, beer garden), a mid-day restock-and-wipe visit prevents the 6 p.m. condition collapse that attendees remember.
• Camping changes the math. Overnight campers keep using units after close, so camping-area banks need either extra units (+20–30% for that bank) or a pump priority slot first thing each morning.
• Confirm the servicing plan at booking. Daily servicing on a festival is a scheduled commitment of trucks and crew — lock it in when you reserve units, not the week of the event. Our service frequency guide covers the general pumping math.

Overnight Security

Units left on unsupervised grounds overnight attract two problems: vandalism and tip-overs. Reduce both:

• Place banks inside the secured perimeter where overnight security patrols pass, not in dark outlots.
• Light every bank all night. Lit units are used properly and vandalized less.
• Stake or ballast units in exposed, windy sites — shore and open-field events especially. Tell us the site conditions and our crew places and anchors accordingly.
• Report damage at first walkthrough. With daily servicing already scheduled, a damaged unit spotted at 6 a.m. can usually be swapped or repaired before gates.

Permits & Inspections

Multi-day public events in New Jersey almost always run through a county or local health department temporary-event process, and sanitation is a named line on those applications: unit counts, handwashing near food vendors, ADA access, and your servicing schedule.
