Talent Units vs. Crew Units
Productions plan restrooms in two tiers, and mixing them up causes friction fast:
- Talent and clients get the upgraded units. A VIP flushing unit — lit interior, freshwater foot-pump flush, real sink, and mirror — placed near the talent trailers or video village reads as professional and keeps hair and makeup touch-ups possible on the spot. For productions running dedicated talent trailers with built-in restrooms, VIP units still earn their keep as overflow and for visiting clients and agency staff.
- Crew gets clean, plentiful standard units. Plan roughly one standard unit per 10 crew for a 10–12 hour shoot day — a film day is longer than an office shift, so err high. Place them by crew parking and the work trucks, not next to set where doors slamming ruin takes.
- Every base camp needs handwashing. A dual hand wash station beside catering and crafty is the fastest way to keep a 60-person crew healthy through a multi-week schedule.

Permit-Friendly Placement
Location permits from municipal film offices routinely specify where production equipment — including restrooms — may sit. Keep the placement clean:
- Put units at base camp, not at set. Base camp is usually a parking lot the production controls outright; placing restrooms there keeps them off residential streets and out of the location owner's landscaping.
- Respect the posted footprint. If your permit maps holding, catering, and trucks to specific curb space, restrooms belong inside that footprint. Units outside it are the #1 neighbor complaint film offices field.
- Stay off storm drains and use containment where required. Some NJ municipalities require a containment tray under units on paved public streets — we flag this at booking and place trays where needed.
- Quiet placement matters on sound stages and night shoots. Keep units far enough from set that door springs don't end up in the audio, but within a 2-minute walk so breaks don't stall the schedule.
- Public-adjacent shoots need an accessible unit. If background extras or public-facing staging is involved, add an ADA-compliant unit on a level pad.
Company Moves & Multi-Location Schedules
Productions rarely sit still. When the schedule hops locations, you have two options:
